Veteran’s Days out and Activities in Sefton and Merseyside
If you’re a veteran looking for a hassle-free day out with the family, turn to Veterans in Sefton CIO. Our organisation in Sefton, Merseyside, offers an array of activities for veterans and their dependants to enjoy. Veterans’ social activities are designed to improve emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing and break people out of isolation. As well as experienced and qualified staff, we have access to a fully equipped luxury 2020 minibus, enabling us to cater for wheelchair users and veterans with disabilities. Activities
As well as encouraging interaction with new, like-minded people, veterans’ days out and activities will help you develop or rediscover new leadership and organisational skills while making great memories. We offer three main types of activity, all of which are organised, supported, and carried out by our qualified, DBS-cleared staff and volunteers.
NAAFI Breaks
Organised twice a week, NAAFI breaks provide regular informal drop-ins for like-minded people of all ages and life experienced. This is a perfect opportunity to meet and make new friends, while also giving great openings to discuss previous and current experiences.
NAAFI breaks will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays 10.30am-12.30pm at the Brunswick Youth and Community Centre in Bootle L20 4JQ

Allotment Trips
Our allotment is available for use 7 days a week, subject to pre-booking. Our regular allotment session takes place every Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We also offer additional activities such as:
- Walking Groups (Daily)
- Yoga
- Cycling
- Family Days
- Sailing
- Bushcraft Skills
Day Activities
We carry out day trips to any location within a designated radius of the Borough of Sefton and further afield. The trips are often put forward to our charity staff by the veterans themselves. Our fully DBS vetted staff will then organise the trip and ensure the safety and enjoyment of all veterans throughout the trip. Past day trips include:
- Pride of Sefton canal boat trips
- The Not Forgotten Association Garden Party, Buckingham Palace
- Canoeing
- Educational trips, such as Museums and Art Galleries
- Arduous walking
Overnight Residential Trips
Additionally, Veterans in Sefton CIO offers a 3-day holistic packages to, To mountain clubs in the Scottish Highlands, Snowdonia National Park or the Peak District. These trips are designed to improve each individual’s emotional and mental wellbeing. After several successful years, our team are well practised in organising and running these trips efficiently and smoothly.
Fully funded for up to 8 veterans and 4 staff, (of which 2 staff are holistic councillors) this trip offers the time to spend time outdoors, removing you from the stressful situations of your daily life. This has been shown to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.
About Our Operations Manager
Our Project Manager, Ian Kerrison has been working for ViS for 8 years and has a vast experience of working with Veterans and their dependants on a wide variety of issues
Ian provides direct support for volunteers, ensuring they are furnished with the relevant training to fulfil their role with confidence. His additional responsibilities involve coordinating activities and leading on projects such as:
- Mountain Club Excursions – Holistic and Adventurous Training
- Pathways into Employment
- Vocational Training
