About Veterans in Sefton

Veterans in Sefton is an independent charity supporting veterans, reservists, and their families across Merseyside. Founded in 2014, we are run by people who understand military life and the challenges that follow. Our mission is simple: to ensure no veteran or family member faces life’s challenges alone.

Our Story

Veterans in Sefton was established in 2014 by Dave Smith and Steve Calderbank, both of whom brought their own military experience and passion for supporting others to the charity. They recognised the need for a dedicated local service that could address the challenges veterans, reservists, and their families face after leaving the Armed Forces.

Since then, Veterans in Sefton has grown into a trusted charity, rooted in honesty, professionalism, and camaraderie. We’ve supported countless individuals with housing, wellbeing, employment, and community opportunities, always guided by the belief that no veteran should feel isolated or unsupported.

Our Mission and Values

Our mission is to stand alongside veterans, reservists, and their families, offering the support and guidance they need to lead fulfilling lives after service. We are dedicated to removing barriers, providing early intervention, and ensuring that every individual feels valued, understood, and part of a strong community.

Our values are shaped by military culture and the principles of honesty, professionalism, and camaraderie. We believe in being stronger together, fostering respect and trust, and creating opportunities that promote resilience, wellbeing, and a brighter future for all who served.

Working Together With Our Community

At Veterans in Sefton, we know that meaningful support comes from strong partnerships. That’s why we work closely with local councils, health providers, charities, and community organisations across Merseyside. By building these connections, we can offer a wider range of services and ensure veterans and their families receive the right help when they need it most.

Community is at the heart of everything we do. From hosting NAAFI Breaks and social activities to encouraging volunteering and peer support, we create opportunities for veterans to connect, share experiences, and build lasting friendships. By working hand in hand with the wider community, we aim to strengthen understanding, raise awareness, and ensure no veteran feels isolated or forgotten.
